SBI CBO descriptive paper preparation requires clear English, a logical structure and typing practice. Use this guide to build essay outlines, write professional letters and review your own work with a simple rubric.
Reference pattern and practice approach
The 2026 notification specifies a computer-typed English descriptive test with letter writing and essay: two questions, 50 marks and 30 minutes. Check the notification applicable to your attempt for changes.
Practise on a computer from the beginning. A good handwritten answer does not automatically become a well-paced typed answer. Follow the word limit and instructions shown in the actual question.
Essay structure
Use an introduction that defines the issue, a body that develops two or three distinct arguments, and a conclusion with practical recommendations. For financial inclusion, you could discuss access, meaningful usage and consumer protection separately. Avoid repeating the same point with different words.
A useful practice outline is: problem, causes, benefits of improvement, implementation challenges and realistic solutions. Use verified examples only. If you cannot verify a statistic, make the point without an invented number.
Letter writing structure
First identify the recipient, purpose and requested action. For a formal letter, use a suitable address block, date, subject, salutation, concise paragraphs and closing as required by the task. Keep the request visible and avoid emotional or accusatory wording.
Original practice prompt: Write to a branch manager requesting a financial awareness session for senior citizens. Explain the purpose, propose suitable topics and request a convenient date. This is a practice task, not a recalled SBI examination question.
Practice prompts and time management
- Essay: responsible use of digital banking by first-time users.
- Essay: financial literacy and household decision-making.
- Essay: opportunities and challenges in serving rural customers.
- Letter: request a correction in a service record.
- Letter: propose an awareness programme on online fraud prevention.
- Letter: seek information about a banking service politely.
Begin with untimed practice, then add a time limit. Reserve a small final review window for missing words, punctuation, agreement and unclear sentences. Allocate time based on the instructions and your own tested writing speed.
A self-review rubric
Score each practice answer out of five on relevance, organisation, language, completeness and proofreading. This is an internal learning rubric, not SBI’s official marking scheme. Ask whether each paragraph advances the answer and whether the requested action is clear.
Replace long decorative sentences with short precise ones. Remove memorised introductions that do not fit the topic. Keep a list of recurring grammar mistakes and check that list before submitting your next practice answer.
