SBI CBO preparation guide by Exam Prepp
SBI CBO preparation resources from Exam Prepp

SBI CBO Banking Knowledge preparation works best when you connect banking concepts with situations you handle in a branch. This guide gives you a practical topic checklist, a revision method and original practice examples. It is a preparation roadmap rather than an official exhaustive chapter list.

Preparation for the next attempt: This guide uses the published 2026 recruitment as a reference where needed. Recheck the notification applicable to your attempt for changes. Study recommendations and examples below are editorial guidance.

Topics to cover

Organise your notes into six folders: banking structure; deposits and customer service; credit and documentation; regulation and compliance; digital banking; and financial statements. Start with definitions, then learn differences and applications.

  • Banking structure: central bank, commercial banks, RRBs, cooperative banking and the functions of a bank.
  • Deposits: savings, current and term deposits, nomination, account mandates and customer grievance handling.
  • Credit: working capital versus term finance, fund based versus non-fund based facilities, security, guarantees and basic credit appraisal.
  • Compliance: KYC, customer due diligence, AML concepts, risk categorisation and escalation.
  • Digital banking: payment systems, authentication, fraud prevention and reconciliation.
  • Financial analysis: balance sheet, profit and loss account, cash flow, liquidity and profitability ratios.

Concept to branch application

For each topic, write four lines: what it means, why the bank needs it, how it appears in a branch, and what commonly gets confused. For a bank guarantee, for example, distinguish a contingent obligation from a loan disbursement. Then identify the applicant, beneficiary and issuing bank in a hypothetical transaction.

Do not copy confidential customer information into study material. Replace names, account numbers and transaction details with fictional examples.

Original practice examples

Example 1: A business needs finance to buy machinery rather than fund its daily operating cycle. Which facility is conceptually more suitable? Answer: Term finance. The purpose is acquisition of a longer-lived asset; working capital supports the operating cycle.

Example 2: A bank issues a guarantee without immediately paying the beneficiary. Is this initially the same as a cash loan disbursement? Answer: No. A guarantee involves a contingent commitment; payment can arise when it is validly invoked under its terms.

Example 3: Sales rise but customers pay slowly. Why might the business still struggle with cash? Answer: Accounting revenue and actual cash collection occur at different times. Receivables can tie up funds.

Revision and error notebook

Study one concept group, solve a small timed set, and review every explanation. Record errors under concept gap, outdated rule, misread qualifier or option confusion. Revisit errors after two days and again after a week. For regulatory thresholds, rates and recent directions, attach a dated RBI source rather than relying on undated notes.

Once your foundation is stable, alternate topic tests and mixed Banking Knowledge tests. Track why an answer is correct, not only how many questions you attempted.
