The typing requirement is not merely desirable: candidates must qualify the prescribed typing test.
Age Limit
The prescribed age band is 18 to 30 years as on 1 September 2026. The advertisement permits age relaxation for SC, ST, OBC-NCL, persons with disabilities and ex-servicemen according to Government of India rules; dependants of freedom fighters can receive relaxation up to five years above the upper age limit. Departmental candidates of the Supreme Court Registry have no upper age limit. The notification specifically says employees of other Government departments, PSUs or nationalised banks do not receive a separate age relaxation merely because of that employment.
Application Fee
The non-refundable fee is ₹1,500 for General/Unreserved candidates and ₹750 for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/Ex-Servicemen/Physically Challenged candidates, plus applicable bank charges. Payment is online through the designated payment gateway. The Registry does not accept postal applications or offline fee payment.
Selection Process & Exam Pattern
The selection has four stages: Objective Type Test, Typing Speed Test on Computer, English Descriptive Written Test and Interview.

There is 0.25 negative marking for every wrong answer in the Objective Test.

Candidates who qualify all three tests may be shortlisted for interview in the ratio of 1:3 against tentative vacancies.
Typing Test Rules

Exam Centre, Admit Card & Exam-Day Rules
The Objective Test will be conducted across notified cities in India; candidates choose city preferences, but the Registry may shift a candidate or modify centres for administrative reasons. Typing and descriptive tests will be held in Delhi/NCR. Interview may be online or physically in Delhi. No request for change of test city, centre or dates will be entertained. Admit cards will not be sent by post and must be downloaded from the Supreme Court website. Candidates should keep their registered email and mobile number active throughout the process.
Preparation Strategy
Practise English typing daily and target comfortably above 35 w.p.m. with accuracy.
The Constitution/Judiciary and Supreme Court Rules together carry substantial weight; do not prepare this like a generic clerical exam.
100 questions in 90 minutes with negative marking demands accuracy plus speed.
Practise comprehension, précis and essay writing before the first-stage result.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Waiting until the final date to upload certificates or pay the fee.
- Assuming 35 w.p.m. is optional.
- Ignoring Supreme Court-specific rules and constitutional judiciary provisions.
- Submitting incorrect name/DOB details that do not match the Class X certificate.
- Expecting to edit the form after final submission.
- Relying on unofficial category-wise vacancy numbers not stated in the notification.
