DBF to JAIIB conversion and DBF subject credit transfer are different routes. If you completed all four DB&F papers before joining an eligible bank or financial institution, you may apply to convert the completed certificate after taking ordinary IIBF membership. If you joined while DB&F was still in progress, IIBF may transfer the subjects you passed, subject to its time-limit rules. Both routes carry an IIBF fee of ₹1,000 plus GST on its current guidance page. Always use the live IIBF application page for the final eligibility decision.

DBF conversion vs credit transfer: the key difference
| Your position | IIBF route | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Completed DB&F before joining an eligible Bank/FI | Certificate conversion | Apply for ordinary membership, then request conversion to JAIIB. |
| Passed one or more DB&F subjects, then joined before completing it | Subject credit transfer | On approval, passed-subject credits and remaining attempts carry forward under the time-limit rule. |
| Passed no subject, or registered for DB&F after joining | Apply for JAIIB | The DB&F credit-transfer route does not apply. |
Who can convert a completed DBF certificate to JAIIB?
IIBF says a candidate who completed DB&F before joining a Bank/FI that is an IIBF institutional member may, after joining and becoming an ordinary member of IIBF, apply to convert the completed DB&F certificate to JAIIB. The stated conversion fee is ₹1,000 plus GST. Completing DB&F does not automatically change your certificate; the candidate must apply through IIBF’s route.
Who can transfer passed DBF subjects?
Credit transfer addresses a different situation: a candidate entered DB&F before joining a bank, passed at least one paper, and joined before completing the whole diploma. IIBF describes two eligible timing scenarios:
- You registered for DB&F before joining; your joining date fell after registration but before the examination; you passed one or more subjects in that attempt without completing DB&F.
- You applied for DB&F before employment, passed one or more subjects, and joined the eligible Bank/FI while the course remained incomplete.
After obtaining ordinary IIBF membership, an eligible candidate may apply for credit transfer by paying ₹1,000 plus GST. Approval carries forward the passed subjects and the balance of attempts under the applicable DB&F time-limit rule. The candidate then registers for the remaining JAIIB examination papers. This is not a fresh set of attempts.
Cases where credit transfer does not apply
- You joined the bank after registering for DB&F but had been absent or had not passed any subject.
- You applied for DB&F after joining the bank.
- You exhausted the permissible DB&F attempts without completing the diploma before joining.
In these cases, IIBF directs eligible employees to obtain ordinary membership and apply for JAIIB under its examination rules. IIBF warns that continuing to appear for DB&F after joining an eligible Bank/FI can put the DB&F result or certificate at risk of cancellation. Check your joining date, DB&F registration date, passed papers and remaining attempts before selecting a route.
How to apply through IIBF
- Confirm your situation. Separate a completed DB&F certificate from partially passed subjects. Review the eligibility scenarios on the official IIBF conversion and credit-transfer page.
- Obtain ordinary membership. IIBF ties these routes to joining an eligible institutional-member Bank/FI and taking ordinary membership.
- Open IIBF’s application link. Use the “Click Here to Apply” control on its official guidance page. The application portal may request records to verify your membership, DB&F result and employment timeline; follow the current portal instructions for exact documents.
- Choose the correct option and review the fee. IIBF’s published guidance specifies ₹1,000 plus GST for conversion or transfer. Check the payable amount shown in the portal before submitting.
- Keep the confirmation. Save the application acknowledgement and payment record, then check the portal for approval before assuming that a certificate or paper credit has transferred.
Time-sensitive notice: Portal availability and any application window can change. A past deadline shown in an older search result is not proof that the current conversion route is closed. Read the live IIBF page and portal on the day you apply.
What should you study after credit transfer?
Once IIBF approves a subject credit transfer, identify the JAIIB papers still outstanding and the attempts left under the time-limit rule. The four JAIIB papers are Indian Economy & Indian Financial System (IE&IFS), Principles & Practices of Banking (PPB), Accounting & Financial Management for Bankers (AFM), and Retail Banking & Wealth Management (RBWM). Use the JAIIB exam guide and the DBF exam guide for the broader exam path, and verify your applicable rules with IIBF’s JAIIB rules and syllabus PDF.
