If you have passed Class 12 and want a useful first step towards a banking and finance career, DBF is a useful option to explore for your next step.
DBF can help you begin learning the language of banking before your degree is complete. Instead of waiting until graduation to explore the sector, you can start building a subject foundation now and develop it alongside your higher education.
How DBF Can Help You
- Give your next academic step a career direction: connect your degree plans with an interest in banking and finance.
- Build an early foundation: become familiar with banking institutions, financial ideas and customer-oriented thinking.
- Prepare for future opportunities: develop concepts and explanations you can build on as you meet the requirements of your target jobs.
What This Can Add to Your Career
Think of DBF as an early professional learning layer alongside your degree. Your graduation fulfils the educational requirements specified by many opportunities; DBF can add banking-focused knowledge to that academic base. The 30-day plan below helps you start steadily and decide how to sustain the preparation.

First Check: Is DBF the Right Route for You?
IIBF permits eligible non-members who have passed Class 12 in any discipline or its equivalent to pursue DBF. Employment and membership status also matter. Check the current rules before applying, especially if you already work in a bank or financial institution.
Keep your graduation decision separate. DBF does not replace a degree or satisfy every recruitment notification’s educational requirements. Ask yourself: “Which degree will I pursue, and where can banking study fit without weakening it?”
Days 1–7: Test Your Interest with Three Small Tasks
- Explain in your own words why a person might use a bank account.
- Read a short banking news item and distinguish the event from the background concept.
- Try a simple percentage and interest calculation, then explain each step.
Keep a notebook titled “What I understood / What I need to ask.” You do not need expert answers at this stage. Look for curiosity and willingness to revise. If a term is unfamiliar, write a question rather than copying a definition you cannot explain.
Days 8–14: Check Your Study Capacity
| Your situation | Starter routine | Evidence to collect |
|---|---|---|
| College admission or entrance preparation underway | Three short sessions a week | Can you complete them without missing your main deadlines? |
| Academic schedule is settled | Four concept-and-practice sessions | Can you recall last week’s ideas without replaying a video? |
| Accounting feels unfamiliar | Add a separate basics session | Can you identify cash, income and an amount owed? |
These are suggested routines. Start small and adjust after a week. Watching lessons is only the input; recall, solved questions and reviewed mistakes show what you are learning.
Days 15–21: Try a Banking Explanation
An original beginner exercise
A fictional student asks: “My bank balance increased today. Does that always mean I earned income?” List possible reasons: wages, money transferred from family, a loan or money moved from another account. Explain why the amount alone does not identify its source.
Use the exercise to practise asking for information before making a conclusion. This habit will help when you later study accounting and banking processes. Keep all examples fictional and avoid sharing account details.
Days 22–30: Make a Budget and Decision
- Check IIBF examination fees, courseware and the current registration window.
- Treat Exam Prepp coaching fees as a separate item from IIBF fees.
- Check course access, language, class format and doubt support.
- Identify degree-exam weeks when you will need a lighter routine.
- Choose a review date to decide whether to start, continue exploring or defer.
Choose a supported course when you need structured explanation and regular practice. Choose a slower start when your college path is still unsettled. A decision that matches your capacity is more useful than enrolling simply because others are enrolling.
How to Use Exam Prepp at This Stage
Explore the DBF course on the Exam Prepp app and ask how a beginner should sequence the lessons. Bring specific doubts such as “I do not understand the difference between cash received and income earned.” Specific questions make mentorship useful.
Your first target should be a consistent study habit and a clear understanding of the route ahead. Completing graduation, developing communication and building banking knowledge can then progress together at a manageable pace.
Frequently Asked Questions
